In the few times I've been to the shooting range, I've worn a mix of things but they've always consisted of the main staples: a shirt, jeans & shoes. And while I've seen everything from women in high heels to shorts to combat boots to sweats, I've realized that you can (but you shouldn't) really just come as you are.
Read MoreI remember the days when getting on an airplane was exciting and when the in-flight meal was something to look forward to. However, nowadays flying seems to bring on more inconvenience and hassle with all the rules and regulations that TSA and each airline has implemented.
Read MoreI've already talked about what to wear to the shooting range and I wanted to revisit that topic a bit more to focus specifically on what shoes to wear to the shooting range.
Read MoreI have talked about my apprehension and anxiety when it came to shooting for the first few times and a lot of that had to with not being comfortable handling a firearm. When I first went shooting with the husband and we started renting guns, I vaguely remember signs posted about the four rules of gun safety
Read MoreI came across Primland last year when the husband and I were looking for a “local” weekend getaway. Unfortunately, the dates we were looking at didn’t have any availability. So when an opportunity came up to go this year I was so excited! I guess you can say it was meant to be.
Primland is a luxury resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It’s about a five hour drive from DC and there are so many different routes you can take from DC/Maryland/Northern Virginia especially if you’re looking to stop along the way to check out some different scenery or historical sights.
Read MoreMy first experience with shooting guns was not a positive one. You can read about that here. If there was going to be a gun in the house then I really needed to be confident and comfortable with how to use it. My early attempts at going to the range with my husband left me frustrated and lost.
Read MoreFor many shooters, including those new to firearms, going to the shooting range can be overwhelming. While, over time, my visits to the range have become easier at first, they always were stress inducing and caused me a lot of anxiety.
Read MoreI've been really trying to live by the 'Make It Happen' mantra. I recently just got a bracelet engraved with that saying to keep it in the forefront of my life and I've been wearing it daily. It's about prioritizing things in my life.
Read MoreI always have a plan when I go to the shooting range. Sure, shooting fast at a target is fun but more than likely your hits will be all over the place and you are less likely to have a positive learning experience.
Read MoreWe all have bad days when things don't seem to go our way. It's a way of life. For me, those bad days or maybe even off days seem to be happening at the range lately.
Read MoreOne of the terms that I heard a lot shortly after I started shooting was “dry fire”. My initial thought was, “great another term and skill to learn in already overwhelming field.” But thankfully, it’s a pretty simple exercise that has a major payout.
Read MoreWe are all currently impacted right now living through this Coronavirus pandemic. None of us could have fathomed or predicted how this would alter and change the course of our daily lives. Things we used to be able to do, and most likely took for granted, have now halted.
Read MoreI don’t know about you but from the very first time I stepped foot into a gun range I felt intimidated. Intimidated because I didn't know what I was getting into, I didn’t know what I was doing, and because well, I was the only girl.
Read MoreEvery January I always look forward to heading to Vegas for SHOT Show. This my 4th year and this one was the busiest yet; definitely not complaining. I also was there for a shorter amount of time so I had to pack in my meetings. I thought last year I didn’t have much time to roam the floor or booths but this year I really didn’t. And honestly, there wasn’t anything major that I was hearing about that I had to make a point to go check out so I didn’t feel like I missed much.
Read MoreIt’s been a full week since returning from SHOT and I finally feel like I can take a moment to decompress. It was busy during SHOT, as always, and all good things.
Read MoreFor those that are on social media, you might have seen a little announcement back in May that I'll be joining season five of NRA TV's Love At First Shot. I'm super excited and a little bit nervous. When I was first presented with this great opportunity, I was all for it as Love at First Shot is a show I've watched many times before and they always have such great tips and information for women.
Read MoreLast week I had the awesome opportunity to attend an NRA Carry Guard Training down in Dallas, TX with a great group of women. If you’re not familiar with the NRA Carry Guard training, it's a program designed to be the “gold standard in concealed carry training to prepare responsible citizens who legally carry to effectively confront today’s evolving conflict environment.”
Read MoreI can't help but sit here and shake my head at some of the things I hear on the news. I intentionally keep this space free from discussing my views on current events, not because I don't have an opinion but because that's not why SMT was created. I want you to feel inspired and encouraged when you come here. However, when I hear public figures preaching the exact opposite of what the mission of SMT stands for I tend to get a little defensive.
Read MoreAnother year, another SHOT Show in the books. This year was incredibly busy. I'm not complaining one bit but it didn't leave me or the husband much opportunity to check out all the new gear or much of the exhibits as we had in years past. In between meetings and recording the new podcast the days on the SHOT Show floor went quick.
Read MoreBack in November, I had an awesome opportunity to train with Dom Raso and his team at Dynamis Alliance. I recapped that weekend in a post that you can read here. It was hard to put that experience into words and that weekend along with its message of honor and crushing everything we do in our lives, still very much lives within me every day.
